Here is a glimpse at my work-in-progress (WIP) on the human brain, focusing on the cerebellum. This often underappreciated organ contains nearly 80% of all neurons in the human brain, or ~69 billion out of ~86 billion in total! For comparison, the "glorified" cerebral cortex contains a mere 16 billion neurons.
The majority of cerebellar neurons occupy the tightly folded cortex, which features numerous folia (the folds), separated by fissures (the grooves) of varying depths. In building the model, my primary intention was to faithfully reproduce this beautiful pattern, so as to achieve an anatomically accurate representation.
Creating each fold and making sure it fits neatly among its neighbours is painstakingly tedious, but the final result is worthy the ordeal (I hope). Anyhow, there is still much work to do!
